ELEMENT AND VIBE began with the spark of an emotion fueled by pain, fear, anger, and sadness.
In 2012, the death of Trayvon Martin shook Aisha Taylor, founder and creative director, to her core. Unsure if the feeling was due to fear for the lives of her boys, her husband, anger that this young mans life was taken due to nothing short of ignorance and prejudice, pain for his mom, or just a pure cry for justice. Maybe it's all of it. Fast-forward to 2016, Aisha was on vacation in Destin, Florida and while on the balcony, scrolling through social media, she sees a video emerge of a man being pinned down by two police officers and soon after, he is shot to death at point blank range. His name was Alton Sterling. This. This very moment, put her emotions into gear.
She began looking for a shirt that could say everything that she was feeling. Every emotion. She needed a tee that could group all of her emotions together. She couldn't find one, she created her own; FREEDOM. This did it. From there, requests started pouring in. The loss of life continued. More deaths at the hands of police officers and vigilantes continued. More injustices. Additional designs were created. More orders began to come in. ELEMENT AND VIBE is now selling message-based t-shirts all over the world.
This brand creation was very unintentional. But now that we're here, we're glad. Equality and Justice is the heartbeat of our organization. We intend to provide an outlet for raw emotion where each message creates a space for self-evaluation, empowerment, and dialogue.
THIS IS OUR STORY.
